The knee is one of the largest and most complex joints in the body; it also serves as a shock absorbing. Knee pain is common, it can be as a result of overuse, injury or obesity leading to the cartilage on the end of the joints to break down, causing a narrowing of the joint space and bones to rub together. Painful bony growths, (spurs) may form leading to swelling, stiffness, and possibly osteoarthritis, the most common type of arthritis. Another type of arthritis is rheumatoid arthritis, an autoimmune disease characterized by extreme inflammation.
